Phase retrieval and compression of low-power white-light pulses
We characterize and compress sub-nJ visible white-light continuum (WLC) pulses generated by self-phase modulation in yttrium aluminium garnet. The spectral phase is retrieved by spectrally resolving the transient reflectivity from an optically-excited transition metal oxide. This measured phase is compensated by applying the appropriate distortion to a deformable mirror. By comparing the respon...
متن کاملPropagation of Coherent Light Pulses with PHASE
The current status of the software package PHASE for the propagation of coherent light pulses along a synchrotron radiation beamline is presented. PHASE is based on an asymptotic expansion of the Fresnel-Kirchhoff integral (stationary phase approximation) which is usually truncated at the 2 order. The limits of this approximation as well as possible extensions to higher orders are discussed. Th...
متن کاملGeneration of high power, sub-picosecond 10 μm pulses via self-phase modulation followed by compression
We present an ongoing experiment where high power, sub-picosecond 10 μm laser pulses will be produced at 1 Hz. To achieve this 3 ps pulses of a 2 GW CO2 laser were broadened via self-phase modulation in GaAs and compressed in a dispersive element. Temporal and spectral data are presented which demonstrate the possibility of compression by more than a factor of 3.
متن کاملWhite Light Diffraction Phase Microscopy
Quantitative phase imaging (QPI) techniques are very advantageous compared to the qualitative phase imaging techniques like bright field microscopy, phase contrast microscopy, differential interference contrast microscopy due to measurement of phase information quantitatively. In QPI techniques, there is no need of exogenous contrast agents to stain or tag the specimen. White light diffraction ...
متن کاملPhase-locked white-light continuum pulses: toward a universal optical frequency-comb synthesizer.
We demonstrate that two white-light continuum pulses that are independently generated by phase-locked ultrashort laser pulses are locked in phase and show surprisingly clear and stable Young interference fringes. The experiment shows that the two generated continua emit essentially in phase and that random phase jitter can remain negligible. This result is not only of interest for studies of no...
